Problem Statement
In this problem we had to find where the firework was going to land and to find that we had to find the distance because the director of the school wanted fireworks because varsity won the championship so he needs to know where is landing so nothing get blowed up or an accident happens.
Process & Solution
- What’s the distance between the building and the place where is landing?
- When will the fireworks reach their peak?
- Where will the fireworks land?
My process and my gruops process:
First we started by drawing the diagram
Initial Attempts:
Then we started to solve for:
X-intercepts:
The picture displayed on the left, shows the mistakes my group and I committed. Throughout the process of solving the problem we got confused with numbers by inserting wrong answers. We multiplied -16 by 2 which originally is supposed to give us -32, by we wrote down -14. Our mistake caused us to get the x-intercepts wrong. At the end of the period, my group members and I figured that our answer was wrong. The next day of math class, we jumped into our problem and fixed our mistake from yesterday.

X-intercept: we did the quadratic formula
Vertex:
In figuring out the vertex, we came across various problems. Our main goal was to figure out the the middle part of both x--intercepts in order to find the first point for the vertex. The process for solving the vertex was complicated for all of us, but by asking questions to our teacher, we understood the problem better. The other picture on the left shows the same process, but with the other point of the vertex.

Problem Evaluation:
This problem made me struggle a lot, more than what I expected. In beginning of the process to solve the problem, I only understood half of it. That was a big struggle for me, because that my classmates had a better knowledge with the problem than me. By asking questions, my understanding of the problem improved. By going the problem step by step, it pushed me to continue working on it. I ended up memorizing the quadratic formula in this problem.
Self evaluation:
From a scale of 1-10, I believe I deserve an 8. I managed to push myself to get a better knowledge of the problem. Being that there was a lot of steps to one problem, it makes me think less. I get stress knowing that there is a lot of work to do, but for this problem I didn’t give up. I asked questions, I revised my work to get the right answer. I pushed myself a lot to go forward with this problem.
